Associate Degree Programs

An associates degree is designed to prepare students (1) for a bachelors degree, by allowing them to complete general education requirements prior to transfering to a 4-year university, and (2) for entry level career positions. Associate degrees include:

Associate of Arts - This degree is typically designed for students who intended to transfer to a 4-year college or university following the completion of their degree. Students usually focus their studies in the social sciences and humanities.

Associate of Science - Like the Associate of Arts this degree is awarded to students who plan on transfering to a 4-year college or university. However, students usually focus their studies in mathematics, technology or natural sciences.

Associate of Fine Arts - This degree is awarded students in Theater, Music, and Art and is usually transferable. This degree often does not satisfy general education requirements of most 4-year colleges and universities.

Associate of Arts in Teaching - This degree allows students who transfer to any participating 4-year college or university to receive credit for approved education courses. This degree will also qualify students for Teacher’s Aide career positions. This degree can be earned while pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

An associates degree can be earned in just as two years (and even faster via a fast track program). An associate degree will equip students with foundational knowledge and skilled required to get started in a specific career.

Bachelor Degree

A bachelor degree is a four-year undergraduate degree that usually requires you to earn 120-128 credits, including a number of major specific credits. There are two primary types of bachelor’s degrees. These include:

  • Bachelor of Arts (abbreviated B.A. or A.B.) – this degree program usually requires that you earn a majority of credits in the arts, social sciences and humanities.
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S. or B.Sc) – this degree usually requires you to earn a majority of credits in physical sciences, life sciences, or mathematics. It’s important to know that bachelor degree programs are also offered in a large number of career areas other than those listed above. Accredited bachelor’s degrees are available in a variety of criminal justice, finance, business, and healthcare fields.
  • The most important reason to earn a bachelor’s degree is its earning power. The lifetime earnings of individuals possessing a bachelor’s degree, one average, is nearly double the income of workers who have only earned a high school diploma. Earning a bachelor’s degree can also open the door to exciting career opportunities and pave the way to earning graduate degree such as an MBA, Master’s Degree or Doctoral degree.

Master’s Degrees

The first graduate program above the bachelor’s degree is the Master’s degree, which takes one to two years to complete. Those interested in administrative positions should strongly consider a master’s degree.
